To expand on something mentioned briefly; to allow pain to be there, experience it, sit with it, an not be bothered by it being there so that it can pass through you and be released.
I should point out a trap that is easy to fall into. Not wanting the pain to be there, or wanting it to go away is non-acceptance. It is a resistance to what is present in the current moment. Wanting what already is, to be different then what it already is (this second) will cause new pain on top of the old.
There is a fine line between making a plan to change something and following through; vs disliking what currently is. It’s like setting goals and taking action vs complaining. Resistance/ mentally disliking something creates new pain.
Another trap is mentally seeking fulfillment in a future moment. That is thinking of a future point in time as more desirable then what is right now. That is the same as wishing the present moment is different then what it currently is, which is resistance and is a form of complaint and causes new pain, and actually prevents you from reaching what you were looking forward to. Think of this as “enjoy the ride” and not hyper focus on the destination, which causes pain by not accepting what currently is.
Fully embrace mentally what you are currently going through. Acceptance that the emotion is there, and allowing it to pass through by experiencing it in a surrendered state as if Jesus on the cross. At peace, in the pain. And suddenly the pain is just a experience and doesn’t bother. (To put it into words I guess it’s experiencing it from the point of view of spirt rather then the body. But is done by letting go and accepting)
This doesn’t happen all at once, pace yourself. Lessons are learned over time. But is extremely worth it
