Peace is available even with tears streaming down the face.
You aren’t the thoughts, emotions, or physical body. You are what never changes or goes away. The perceiving awareness; this is life; this is the connection to God and the spirit in all others; where we join as one (oneness in Christ; we are all one).
We are the awareness that notices the thoughts/emotions/perceptions; but don’t make the mistake of mistaking who you are as the thoughts/emotions/perceptions (as most of the population does). We are not what is temporary. We are the one that notices. The “I am”, before anything is labeled. Eckhart put it beautifully that we mistake ourselves as the ripples on the water which quickly disappear. But really we are the depth of the water underneath that doesn’t change.
The temporary things on the surface can be noisy and distracting, but they aren’t all that important, and will quickly disappear (thoughts, emotions, processions, experiences). Nothing of this world lasts forever. Our essence is not of this world, it is from God.
